Go Reds!

One of my favorite thing to do in the Spring/Summer, is watch Ben play baseball!  This year we have graduated from t-ball to coach pitch baseball.  It has been a lot of fun (when the games are not rained out anyway!)

Any of you that know me, knows that my children did not get any of their athletic ability from me.  In fact, I know very little about most sports!  So Chris has to keep me informed on all of the lingo, game rules, etc.  He has also given me some rules that I am supposed to follow to be a sports mom! 

1. No matter how hurt Ben is, I am not allowed on the field, unless the coach calls me!!! 

(hope not to test this rule, but it might be the one I'd break!)

2. No mom's in the dug out.

 (especially no mom's in the dugout taking pictures...got in trouble for this one last night!)

3.  When taking Ben to the game he MUST have his hat!

4. No velcro shoes in sports EVER.

5. No homemade treats for the team.

(park rule..only candy from the concession stand, evidently!)

6. No yelling at coaches, umps etc.

(I know you were all worried that this might be a problem for me, but I think he threw it in since he's one of the coaches!)

the shower incident

This Spring has been the craziest!  My to do list is unending.  My calendar is a huge mess as everyday is filled with something.  And yet, I keep volunteering and signing up for more.  I really need to learn to keep my mouth closed and my hands down!!



Anyway, to unwind from the craziness, I enjoy taking long hot showers after I put the kids to bed. Well, that was until a few weeks ago!



At the beginning of April, we decided to have our repairman come fix some things that we have been putting off for a while, and we also had him install a new shower door for our bathroom.  The door was not broken but it was GOLD trimmed...yuck!



Anyway, a few weeks after it was installed, I put the kids to bed and got in the shower.  Shortly after getting in, I heard a loud popping sound and then the glass on the new shower door just starts shattering all over the place, on me, on the floor, into the tub on the opposite wall...everywhere!!!  So there I am in the shower covered in glass, unable to open the door, afraid of getting hit by the glass that is still falling from the top of the frame.  The kids are screaming because they heard the noise, but they can't find me (thankfully) and Chris wasn't home from work yet!



My first reaction was to be really mad about the money we just spend on it and it was now literally going down the drain!  My second thought as the glass is still falling to the floor, was why did this happen?  It almost sounded like a gun shot when it popped, but I quickly decided that that thought was born from all the crazy cops shows Chris insists on watching! Anyway, I made it out with only a couple small cuts on my feet, but so much for relaxing! And we have no idea what caused it!



The next day, I called the company that made it.  They didn't have any in stock, but could have a new panel made and shipped to us for free (thankfully!)  However, this meant 2 weeks of everyone sharing one bathroom for showers...again so much for relaxing!



When it arrived, I decided that Chris and I could manage to install it...hahaha!!  It took us at about 2 hours and there were only 3 screws!!!  Pathetic, I know!!!




So, this is my life...a never ending adventure!!!!

field trip

On Monday, I chaperoned Abby's class field trip to Springfield. 



We got a tour of Lincoln's home.



We visited the Capitol building. 

The dome and the ceilings were beautiful!

Our representative, Keith Sommers treated our class to a pizza party at the Executive Mansion where Abby posed for a picture with him!



After lunch, we headed to the Museum where we got to learn all about President Lincoln.  Here the girls are posing with the wax Lincoln family.

Our last stop was to Lincoln's Tomb.

 

Abby and I rubbed Lincoln's nose and his foot for good luck!!!



mother's day

Happy Mother's Day!

As if being blessed with three amazing children wasn't enough, each of them made me special little treats to thank me for being their mom!!!

Abby made me a picture tile with a lovely card that says, "You are the best mom in the world!"

Ben typed me a mother's day poster that says,
My mom is as pretty as a princess.
My mom smiles when I do a silly fas.
My mom takes me to the stor.
My mom cooks the best cake.
My mom is best at making pancakes.
She loves it when I clean my room.
Happy Mother's Day!  I love you!

Katy made me (and Chris) a beautiful garden stone and sweet handprint card at school.  The card says, "My hands were once so tiny. I needed so much care.  Thank you so much, Mom and Dad for always being there!"Her school also did a parent day program where Katy wasn't shy at all singing her songs and dancing!

 My wonderful husband bought me a silver infinity bracelet with the word "mom" inscribed in 32 different languages...very sweet! 

Needless to say, this mother's day left me feeling very loved, appreciated and blessed!

my man of the year

Congratulations to Chris for being named Assistant Principal of the Year by the Illinois Principal's Association!  It is so GREAT to see him recognized for his constant dedication and hard work.

Yesterday, after a couple years of growing her hair out, Abby got her long hair cut so she could donate it to Locks of Love.

Unlike her mother, she wasn't worried at all!
